How to play A Rock
Adopt a rock. It does nothing. Polish it once a day, forever.
How to play
Sign in and a rock is adopted for you. Its shape is drawn from your account, so no two rocks are quite alike and yours never changes shape.
Polish it once per day. Each polish makes it very slightly smoother — 200 polishes is a mirror finish, which at one a day is a little over half a year.
Name it whatever you like, and rename it whenever you like.
The gift shop sells fittings with 🎟️ Tickets: a pedestal, a gallery lamp, an engraved plaque you can write on, a tiny hat, and a jeweller's cloth that allows a second polish each day.
There is no score, no leaderboard, and no way to lose. The rock cannot be neglected — it will simply be there, exactly as you left it.
Scoring
- Nothing is scored. Smoothness is a percentage of the way to a mirror finish, and the only other number is the rock's age in days.
- Titles are honorary: an Unremarkable Rock becomes a Promising Pebble, a Smooth Stone, a Mirror Stone, and finally an Heirloom.
Tips
- The jeweller's cloth halves the wait to a perfect finish. It is the only thing in the game that changes the pace, and it is entirely optional.
- The plaque takes 80 characters. Most people waste them, which is correct.
- Missing a day costs you nothing. There is no streak, because a rock does not care.
Frequently asked questions
Is that really all it does?
Yes. It is a rock. The joke is that you will polish it for a year anyway.
Can my rock die or be lost?
No. It has no needs and cannot be neglected. It survives as long as your account does.
Do Tickets make my rock better?
They make it better dressed. Only the jeweller's cloth changes anything mechanical, and all it does is let you polish twice a day instead of once — there's no leaderboard to climb, so there's nobody to gain on.
