How to play

Boot Doorways 1.3 and land on a teal desktop with Doorway Manager open — there is no Start menu; this is 1992 energy.

Click group icons (Main, Accessories, Games, User Programs) to open apps. Drag title bars, minimize, maximize, and close with the chrome buttons.

Open Dial-Up Networking (Main), sign in, and Connect. Hosts are not listed in the dialer — run NETSCAN in Duh Prompt to sweep the subnet, then HOSTS to reprint.

Curious about the underground toolkit? TYPE C:\DOORSYS\SYSTEM\README.HAK in Duh Prompt (or dial 555-1337). That file is the only in-game how-to.

Open DBasic (Accessories). Use the sample chips or Samples menu for demos, then press Run (F5) or File → Make EXE.

When you're done, choose File → Exit Doorways (or the Exit Doorways button) to submit your session score.

Scoring

• Score is busywork points from one session — higher is better.
• Opening unique apps, dialing up, compiling EXEs, Duh Prompt commands, successful hacks, and mini-games all add points.
• Hack Ticket payouts are server-validated with daily caps; PvP hacks against other online Doorways machines are much harder.

Tips

• DBasic supports PRINT, INPUT, FOR/NEXT, IF/THEN, GOTO, GOSUB, WHILE/WEND, DIM, DATA/READ, COLOR, LOCATE, and common functions.
• Hacks require a live dial-up session; answers and Ticket grants are decided on the server (cooldowns, attempt limits, stage timers).
• Player machines only appear while they are connected — hang up and you drop off the network.
• Read /help/doorways-manual for the complete command and hacking reference (also linked from the Help Center).

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real OS?

No. It is a browser toy that looks and feels a bit like a classic 3.1-era desktop within reason — same teal soul, none of the drivers.

Can I really hack other players?

Yes, if they are dialed in. Multi-stage, timed, server-checked — wrong answers lock you out. Raise FIREWALL UP to defend.

Do hacks pay Tickets?

Yes — successful server-validated breaches pay 🎟️ Tickets, capped per day. Busywork score still rises either way.

Is this Plus-only?
