How to play Swords & Sarcasm
A real old-school MUD. Type verbs, slay wildlife, disappoint your elders.
How to play
Swords & Sarcasm is a genuine multi-user dungeon — one persistent shared world where every player walks, fights, and shops in real time on a 2-second world tick.
Create one character per account: pick a name, one of five races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Orc) and five classes (Warrior, Rogue, Wizard, Cleric, Bard), each with its own stats and a ten-skill kit.
Play by typing commands — movement (n, s, e, w, up, down…), look, map, attack, class skills, rest, talk, shop (list/buy/sell), quests, recall, equip, stats, and more. A sidebar offers a compass, quick-command buttons, and HP/XP bars. Type help anytime.
Combat auto-attacks each tick while you weave in skills (stuns, poison, lifesteal, AoE, heals) that unlock as you level. Dying just respawns you at home minus 10% of your gold — no permadeath.
Scoring
- Your character level is the score: each level costs level² × 40 XP, up to the cap of 50, and your best level posts to the leaderboard.
- Leveling raises your primary stat, refills HP, and unlocks new skills. Quests pay gold, items, and XP.
Tips
- Rest between fights — regeneration is free and the wildlife respawns anyway.
- Charm affects vendor haggling, which quietly makes Bards the economy class.
- Keep gold banked in gear, not your pockets: death taxes cash, not equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have multiple characters?
One character per account, and one active browser tab at a time — opening a second tab evicts the first.
What happens when I die?
You respawn in your home town minus 10% of your gold. Your items, levels, and dignity (mostly) survive.
Is this Plus-only?
Yes — Swords & Sarcasm is currently part of Pointless Plus.
