How to play

You are the old man, and this dirt patch will become the finest lawn on the street. Walk with WASD/arrows (or drag a thumb on the lawn on phones) and switch tools with the toolbar or keys 1-6.

Sow seed on bare dirt, then water it — grass only grows on wet cells, and cracked dry soil is your cue to bring the hose. Fully grown grass is mowed by driving the mower over it, which earns Tickets for the clippings.

Weeds blow in at random and halt growth on their cell; only the weed gloves remove them. Fertilizer doubles a cell's growth speed until its next mow.

Want to redo part of the yard? The sod cutter (key 6) digs a cell back to bare dirt so you can plant a different grass. Established grass (80%+ grown) rolls up and sells as sod for triple its mow value — roots included; younger grass just gets dug under for free.

The lawn is persistent: it keeps growing (and drying out, and sprouting weeds) in real time while you're away. Tickets — the site-wide currency — buy better seed, fertilizer, a wider then faster mower, and eventually the all-yard sprinkler system.

Scoring

• The leaderboard tracks lifetime cells mowed — every satisfying pass of the mower counts forever.
• Fancier grass pays more per mow: rye 🎟️2, bluegrass 🎟️5, zen grass 🎟️12 (scaled by how tall it grew).

Tips

• Mow at full growth for full price — a cell pays out proportionally to how tall it stood.
• Rye funds the empire: it grows fastest, so early on, mow rye on repeat and reinvest in bluegrass.
• Upgrading the yard? Let the old rye grow tall before cutting it as sod — a full-grown cell sells for triple its mow value, which nearly pays for the fancier seed going in.
• The sprinkler ends the watering chore entirely — it's expensive because it's worth it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my lawn if I close the tab?

Never. The yard saves continuously and keeps simulating while you're gone — expect taller grass, thirstier soil, and probably a weed or two on your return.

Why won't my grass grow?

Three usual suspects: the cell was never seeded, it's bone dry (water it), or a weed is squatting on it (gloves, key 5).
